Tension over girl trafficking from Reang refugee camps in Tripura

Agartala, April 26: Tension is brewing in Kanchanpur area over allegations of girl trafficking from Reang refugee camps and growing resistance from the camp inmates against unknown visitors.

Last week the camp inmates detained several boys in the camp premises and handed over them to Anda Bazar police station. President of the Bru Tribal Development Society Dipen Reang alleged that the movement of the boys was very much suspicious.

Officer-in-charge of the police station Ratanmani Debbarma admitted the incident but said he has not arrested them as there was no specific allegation regarding any crimil act committed by them. There was no missing report also.

 In an earlier incident on April 16 the members of the Bru Tribal Development Society detained two boys when they were going out of the camp with one young girl and handed over them to police. Mr Debbarma said the boys identified as Dependu Dey and Maloy Das of Patcherthal, a village few km from Kanchanpur, were detained and the girl was handed over to their guardians.  (IANS)
