Tension over NRC release in Assam

The news of the release of NRC has set off confusions and objections among the masses with its released date to be due on July 30, 2018. The leaders of various state organizations have expressed their thoughts on various aspects. Authorities will release a final report after verifying the objections.

Krishak Mukti Sangram Samite (KMSS) leader, Akhil  Gogoi, expressed his view that the government is trying to create a “panic situation” among Assam’s masses on NRC. He further alleged that the BJP-led coalition government in Assam is trying to create unrest by their security arrangements. The All Assam Students Union (AASU), has given out their viewpoint that the government must try and bring equality in the NRC report.

Further, the deadline for the NRC release has been extended to July 30, by the Supreme Court after a report was filed by the NRC coordinator on the problem related to floods in the state. The state government has taken strict measures on the security, which is to be enforced during the release of the NRC, security forces have been dispatched to the conflicted and sensitive zones all over the state. The social media platform has been closely monitored by the Assam police to tackle inappropriate content and rumours that are being posted.
