'Terrorists behind poisoning of students in Afghanistan'

Kabul, April 12: The police chief of western Afghanistan’s Herat province on Sunday blamed terrorists for poisoning of students in a school in the provincial capital Herat city. Some 100 students had to be sent to hospital on Saturday. “Terrorists poisoned some 100 students of Fatah School in Herat city on Saturday and so far one person has been arrested in the case,” Xinhua news agency quoted provincial police chief Abdul Majid Rozi as telling reporters.

The perpetrators by conducting such crimes are attempting to terrorise people, said the official. The majority of the affected students, after receiving medical treatment, were discharged from hospital on Saturday evening but 11 students remain in hospital, the police officer added. “In the past couple of years, students of several schools in various Afghan provinces, including in the country’s capital Kabul, were mysteriously poisoned.
