Tezpur Air Force Station prepares to celebrate 84th anniversary of IAF

 Tezpur, Sept 24: The Air Force Station, Tezpur is making arrangement to celebrate the 84th anniversary of Indian Air Force on October 8.

The air force station stationed in Tezpur is one of the major fighter bases of the Eastern Air Command and was established on September 29,1959, said Wing Commander Mahesh, adding that further that the Tezpur air base was established in the year 1942-43 during World War II. He said that over the years, the Air Force Station, Tezpur transformed itself into a very significant base in the IAF by introducing the latest aircraft and weapons in its inventory and is always geared up to respond promptly and efficiently to deal with any contingency.

Orientation of two SUK 30 squadrons, now a squadron of Akash Missile has been introduced to the Tezpur Air Force base.  Tezpur Air Force Station is located at an average distance of 172 km from Chi border, 146 km from Myanmar border and 160 km from Bangladesh border, said Wing Commander Mahesh. He also said that the nearest three airfields in Chi were almost 350 km away from this base and in future Brahmos missiles would be inducted into the base. The base was equipped with B 24 liberator in World War II but now it is equipped with latest fighter like SUK 30, and the base has post 2000 vintage equipments.
