Tezpur gears up to celebrate Rongali Bihu

Tezpur, April 5: Along with rest of  the State, the  people of Tezpur  are also busy preparing for Rongali Bihu, the festival of joy and prosperity. The major Rongali Bihu committees in Tezpur town, mely, Uttar Tezpur Rongali Bihu Sanmilan, Madhya Tezpur Rongali Bihu Sanmilan, Luitpar Rongali Bihu Sanmilan, Dakshin-Pachim Rongali Bihu Sanmilan, Polo-field Rongali Bihu Sanmilan, Uttar Pub Tezpur Rongali Bihu Sanmilan, Mazgaon Bihu Sanmilan, Tezpur Central Rongali Bihu Sanmilan and Joymati Pathar Bihu Sanmilan are all gearing up to glamorize the festival in a befitting manner.

On the other hand, as like in the past few years, Tezpur regiol unit of AASU has taken initiative to conduct a 30-day Bihu dance and dhol playing workshop at Swahid Bakori premises here. This workshop is organized to propagate the rich Assamese folk culture among the new generation, who tend to forget the Assamese culture and have adopted many forms of western culture.

All the participants in the workshop, including children participants, are given training free of cost. Around 250 children are participating in the workshop. Many Bihu dancers and eminent resources persons, including dhol maestro Somth Borah Ojha are imparting the training. Arup Talukdar, secretary of Tezpur unit, AASU said, “The workshop is conducted every year with a motto to save and grow the rich Assamese culture and also propagate its high moral values among the new generations.” The workshop will conclude on April 15 with a cultural show to be performed by the participants of the workshop in presence of distinguished guests.
