Tezpur ITI apprentices voice concern as NCVT exam gets delayed

From a Correspondent

Tezpur, Nov 26: There is palpable tension among the students of Tezpur ITI for their future following delay in conducting NCVT examition by the State Government here at ITI, Lalmati under Sonitpur district, while the institutions under Central Government have already conducted the NCVT examition in August. The prevailing system of the institute has created predicament in the minds of the students studying here for better prospects in their lives.

Sources said that the Central Government has implemented various schemes and innovative projects for skill development but in Assam, the project Skill-India has not made its mark and the conditions of the industrial institutions in particular remain unchanged. Although the institutions are run by the Institute of Magement Committee and every aspect of the institutes are monitored by the Director of District Development and Employment Department, several allegations keep cropping up from time-to-time owing to improper magement of skill development. In order to get the admission in Tezpur ITI, the apprentice has to deposit Rs 35,000 but despite payment of the hefty amount, the students are being deprived of proper usage of the instruments at the centre.

The examition in technical institutes is scheduled semester basis across India but here the method of examition exists merely in me because examition for two semesters are merged and conducted at the same time. Two half-yearly examitions were conducted at the same time in November, 2016 and result declared in October, 2017 - after a lapse of one year. Students took admission for the two-year vocatiol training course in various trades for 2015-2017 but the third and fourth semester examitions have not yet been conducted, although it was notified by Tezpur ITI that two semester examitions will be conducted in November, but it is still obscure when practically the examitions will start, sources further said.

Students of ITI, Tezpur, while expressing their resentment over the slackness on the part of the authority concerned, alleged, “We are under tremendous pressure thinking about our career. The authority is not concerned about our future. Major irregularities are seen in the method of conducting examition, which is completely different from other technical institutes in India and due to this, students are the worst sufferers. We appeal to the authority concerned to take appropriate steps to bring in a conducive educatiol environment in the institute and to boost our confidence by taking proper administrative measures.”
