Tezpur prepares for Rongali Bihu

Tezpur, April 9: People across the State are busy preparing for Rongali Bihu celebration.

The major Rongali Bihu committees in Tezpur town, mely, Uttar Tezpur Rongali Bihu Sanmilan, Madhya Tezpur Rongali Bihu Sanmilan, Luitpar Rongali Bihu Sanmilan, Dakshin-Pachim Rongali Bihu Sanmilan, Polo-field Rongali Bihu Sanmilan, Uttar Pub Tezpur Rongali Bihu Sanmilan, Mazgaon Bihu Sanmilan, Tezpur Central Rongali Bihu Sanmilan and Milanpur Rongali Bihu Sanmilan, are all set to celebrate the most important festival of the Assamese society in a befitting manner.

However, organizers of the Uttar Pub Tezpur Rongali Bihu Sanmilan, which has already completed 43 years, informed that like in the past, this year too, the celebration would be held with a four-day programme at Gahan Udyan, Nikamul, Tezpur.

Secretary of the celebration committee, Diganta Talukdar, said that the celebration would be in two phases. The first phase will start with unfurling of Bihu flag, lighting the lamp in the amghar, felicitation of senior citizens, and sport competition among the children on April 14.

On April 15, there will be a mini marathon and football match. In the second phase programme on April 28, several competitions like pitha po, diha am, biya am and cultural function will be held.

The last day’s programme includes ‘go as you like’ competition, kabaddi competition, prize distribution and special felicitation of noted persolities. Cultural programme by artistes Dipankar Baroti and Nitumoni Borah will be the major attractions.

On the other hand, like in the previous years, Tezpur AASU has conducted a workshop at Swahid Bakori premises for a month on Bihu dance, dhol badon, khul badon and bhur taal and the ‘Mukoli Bihu’ will be held on April 14 and April 15.?
