Tezpur University makes it to world varsity rankings

Tezpur, September 25: In what can be described as a significant milestone in the history of higher education in Assam and Northeast India, Tezpur University has appeared in the list of top 800 universities of the world.

According to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings that released the list of top 890 universities of the world for the year 2016-17 at midnight on Wednesday (September 21, 2016), 31 Indian institutes found place among the top institutions, with Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, in the 201-250 band edging close to the top 200. Tezpur University and IIT Guwahati are among the universities placed in the 601-800 band.

The ranking exercise was carried out based on five parameters such as Teaching, Intertiol Outlook, Industry Income, Research and Citations. This is for the first time that a university from the Northeast India has figured in an intertiol ranking other than IIT Guwahati.

Tezpur University was recognized with the Visitor’s Best University Award, 2016 and the 5th rank in the MHRD-NIRF India Rankings, 2016 early this year. Recently in May, the University was accredited A grade with CGPA 3.25 by the tiol Assessment and Accreditation Council (AC).

Reacting to the latest recognition, Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Mihir Kanti Chaudhuri attributed the success to the hard work of the students, faculty and the technical and administrative staff of the university. He hoped that the university would find a place in the top 200 universities of the world in the near future.
