Tezpur University's 14th convocation held

Tezpur, April 7: The former vice-chancellor, Hyderabad University Professor Goverdhan Mehta on Friday urged the students to remain lifelong learners and strive for excellence.

Addressing the 14th Convocation of Tezpur University here today, Mehta said that education is not only a gateway to achieve success but it meant for finding purpose in life.

He reminded everyone that India is a rainbow tion, where we all live in complex milieu, but in our diversity lies lot of potential.

“Irony is that a country of billion mobile phone users we have millions live in poverty and illiteracy,” he said.

He further said that India is reaching March and Moon but yet to mage properly water resources or give toilet facilities to all Indian. He urged students to scale new heights but at the same time advised them to blend the success formula with ethical values with social responsibility.

He further said that India is reemerging as a global power, as newer opportunities are arriving at our doorsteps, but with a word of caution he said that in this time good is not definitely not enough as we need to be better than the best. He cited the example of Malala Yousafzai and said that indomitable spirit is required to overcome major obstacles.

He further said that students these days not only need to ask why but also to ask why not and advised them to explore the path of entrepreneurship. He said that students need to be part of entrepreneurial programs such as startup India to seek employment.   

Speaking on Higher educatiol institutions he expressed his disappointment by saying that 60 percent of our graduates can’t be recruited and there is need for urgent revamping our educatiol set up. He talked about the autonomy of higher educatiol institutions and explained why it is important for intellectual thinking and progress. He urged students not to settle for ordiry and mundane jobs but advised them to pursuit excellence.  

Chancellor of the Unversity and Governor, Banwarilal Purohit conferring the degrees and diploma to the passing out students at the Convocation, he said, “It is indeed laudable that within a relatively shorter period of time, Tezpur University could secure a distinctive position among the top premier academic institutions of the country. In recent times, this University has attained position in the 131-140 rankings amongst the top 300 in the Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings 2017. Last year, it was recognized with the visitors Best University Award and was ranked 5th in the MHRD-NIRF India Rankings 2016. These rratives are inspiring not only for members of the Tezpur University fraternity, but also for the larger public of the region as well as the tion who strive to realize the dreams of development on the Indian soil.

In his speech, he also said that these glittering moments are outcomes of the hard work and dedication of the students, researchers, faculty members and staff of the university, and meticulous planning and execution at the policy-making level.

“I am recounting these successful events on this auspicious occasion to celebrate the joy of achievements with all of you,” he said.

Earlier, Vice Chancellor, Tezpur University  Mihir Kti Choudhary in his welcome speech, said that the Convocation or Graduation Ceremony of any higher education institution is one of the  most important and highly celebrated ceremonies where in the graduating students are declared qualified to enter into their professiol domains and also for further higher studies and research.
