Tezpur varsity introduces PG course in Tourism and Travel Magement

Tezpur, July 25: Emphasizing tourism and travel magement in the State, Vice Chancellor of Tezpur University (TU), Professor Mihir K Chaudhuri, said that Tezpur University was a unique place of tourism, abundant with tural recourses. He was addressing a mammoth gathering at an iuguration ceremony held at Tezpur University on Monday.

He further added that on successful completion of the Master of Tourism and Travel Magement (MTTM) programme, the students would not only get jobs but start their own enterprises and thus would become job givers rather than mere job seekers.  CMD of NEDFi, BP Muktieh, Director of Assam Tourism, P. Barua, Dean of School Magement, Prof. Chanda Goswami, Director of Jungle Travels Ltd., Jahbi Phookan, social worker and businessman, Hemanta Lahkar, travel writer, cultural activist and jourlist, Dip Kumar Kalita, senior jourlist, Pulak Kumar Deka and many other dignitaries were present at the iugural programme.

Chief guest of the ceremony, BP Muktieh, CMD of North Eastern Development Fince Corporation Ltd. (NEDFi), said that tourism was a vast industry and the Central Government had taken many more schemes in railway sector and thus there was enough scope for the students from this stream in future but at the same time he stressed mostly on language and communication.

Attending the ceremony, Director of Assam Tourism, P.Barua assured that the Government of Assam would offer all necessary help and cooperation in making the MTTM programme an exceptiol one in the entire country.

The coorditor of the MTTM programme, Mrinmoy Kumar Sarma said that the syllabus for this programme had been made after compiling with the syllabi of others universities from across the country and further added that skill development of the students played a vital rule in the tourism sector to earn more opportunities. He further said that the programme was designed after studying almost all tourism magement courses being run in the country and the programme, apart from imparting basic development, would provide hands-on skill needed for tour guiding, local handling, and tour operations emergency handling, including medical and tural disaster.

Prof. Papori Baruah earlier welcomed the distinguished gathering and the first batch of students of this programme and Dr. Anjan Bhuyan, Associate Professor offered the vote of thanks.
