Thaneswar Dev Sarma, a dedicated teacher, sportsman, actor and social worker from Abhayapuri Deohati died on May 14 at his residence at the age of 79 .
Born in the year of 1936 in a cultured and respected family of Abhayapuri, Sarma after completion of education started his career as a teacher at Bapuji ME School, Abhayapuri and retired as headmaster of that institution.
As a teacher he was very dedicated and received several letters of credentials for his performance and State award was also given to him during 1997. He was also a keen lover of sports, football in particular, and participated in many tourments as goalkeeper.
Besides that, he was a stage actor and worked in as many as 60 plays as part of Brajh Sarma tyadal, where he came in touch with Kalaguru Bisnu Prasad Rabha.
As a social worker, he was first donor member of the local cremation ground and was the pioneer of many educatiol institutions. During the Assam Movement, he played an active role in Ga Sangram Parishad and later on became executive member of AGP North Salmara District committee. Besides that, he was a member of Abhayapuri Sakha Sahitya Sabha, Brahman Samaj and many more social organizations.
A good-looking gentleman, Sarma was a strict disciplirian, sincere in his work and was loved and respected by all sections of people due to his simplicity and amiable disposition.
Today on the day of his Adhya Shradha, I pray to almighty for granting eterl peace of the departed soul.
