Theft and robbery at its peak in Jorhat

JORHAT: Incidents of looting, theft, robbery, including ATM lifting are on the rise in Jorhat city and its outskirts. The residents of the district are a worried lot. A group of senior citizens met their local MLA and Assembly Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami here on Friday and submitted him a memorandum, said Niranjan Mahanta, the president of the citizen’s group.

According to the memorandum, on March 14, besides the lifting of three bikes from the heart of the city, dacoits robbed goods and ornaments from the resident of Dushyanta Madhav Sarma, the Director of Regional Public Relation Office, Jorhat. His resident is located under Bhogdoi Outpost. On the same night, one Latu Neog’s business establishment was robbed. Cash amounting to Rs 1 lakh and a laptop were looted. The area falls under Pulibor outpost in Monaimaji. A month earlier, a bid to lift an ATM machine was foiled when members from the VDP informed the police.
