DIGBOI, April 22: A theft reported in AOD residential Santipara area at bungalow no. 3180 on Sunday morning under Digboi police station has caused sensation in the area. The theft took place when the occupant of the bungalow, Chitra Sonowal, an AOD official, had gone to Dibrugarh with his wife to bring their daughter home. The thieves decamped with all the Assamese traditional ornaments and clothes. Goods worth around Rs 30,000 was stolen. Meanwhile, finding one of the windows wide open and sensing trouble, the two neighbours - Bharati Sonowal (50) and Bhawani Baruah (46) - acted promptly and called Chitra Sonowal. “I saw a boy around 13 years old creeping out of the window and escaping from the backside of the house while other boys were providing him cover from different sides,” said Bhawani Baruah. Several incidents of burglary and theft have been reported in the Santipara area - a residential zone inhabited by AOD officials and employees, despite deputing contractual security personnel at night. Based on an FIR, the police have started investigation and apprehended some of the local youth on suspicion.
