Third Phase Polls: Assam-Bhutan Border Sealed By The SSB

GUWAHATI: Keeping an eye on cross-border disturbance during the third phase of Lok Sabha election in Assam, the Bhutan-India border along the BTAD sector has been sealed by the SSB.

Bhutan shares a long border with the BTAD where the Kokrajhar Lok Sabha constituency is going to polls on Tuesday. Since one of the NDFB factions is still active, such a measure has been taken to ensure free-and-fair election in the State.

The Kokrajhar Lok Sabha constituency has a number of sensitive polling stations where armed forces have been deployed. Other polling stations in the constituency have been manned by police personnel.

Since the districts under the Bongaigaon Lok Sabha constituency share their borders with West Bengal, security has also been tightened on either side of the inter-State border. Assam and West Bengal had talks on security bandobast to be taken during the election.
