Thousands bid tearful adieu to Dharma Guru

DIBRUGARH, Sept 5: The funeral of Viharadhyaksha of the Tinsukia Buddhist Temple, Ven. Kalyanmitra Mahathero , who passed away on August 31, was performed on Friday amidst presence of monks from different parts of the State and country, disciple and other dignitaries. A condolence meeting was held which was followed by Sangha Daan ceremony for the peace of the departed soul.

A huge procession was brought out keeping Dharma Guru Ven.Kalyan Mitra’s body in a chariot. The chariot pulling crowd of more than 1,000 passed through the main thoroughfares like College Road, Chirwapatty, AT Road and GNB road and later culmited at the cremation site.

Before cremation ceremony started, people from all walks of life present at the cremation ceremony paid their last homage and bid farewell to the departed Dharma Guru.

Ven. Kalyanmitra Mahathero was a highly respected monk in Tinsukia district. He got his Higher Ordition (Bhikshu) in 1967 at Shillong Buddha Vihar, in the presence of Ven. Jiratan Mahatsavir who became his Upajjhaya. He arrived in Tinsukia Buddhist Temple in 1968 and stayed here till his last breath.
