Thousands of devotees take holy bath at Kopili Tirtha

Haflong, April 11: Like every year, thousands of devotees, mostly from Dimasa community, took a holy bath at the Panimoor falls which is considered as the ‘Kopili Tirtha’, on the day of Maghi Purnima on Tuesday.

Kopili Tirtha or ‘Kopili pilgrimage’ is located 42 km from Umrangso on the Lanka-Umrangso road. It is a beautiful waterfalls in the River Kopili where the legendary Princess Dishru disappeared and her footprints are also present there, the people believe. This place being a holy place, people take holy bath at Panimoor since the rule of the Dimasa kingdom.

After the holy bath, people worship Sibarai and offer prayers for the peace and well-being of the society from early morning. The day-long programme includes general assembly and also distribution of prasad to the devotees.  

The ‘Kopili Tirtha’ is observed every year and the numbers of devotees keeps increasing every year. This year people, other than those from the Dimasa community, were seen taking holy bath at the waterfalls.
