Thousands take holy dip at Parashuram Kund

Itagar, Jan 16: On the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti, thousands of devotees from across the country on Saturday took a holy dip at the historic Parashuram Kund at Wakro in Lohit district.

According to the myths, it is believed that sage Parashuram had visited the Kund to meditate and wash off his sins. Likewise devotees consider it auspicious to take bath on the occasion of Makar Sankranti and start life anew. The district administration was in full swing to provide round the clock magisterial duty and prevent any possible law and order problems. Lohit DC Danish Ashraf, SDO (S) G Hazarika, EAC Wakro cum Mela officer Dakto Riba and CO Une Pertin made continued checks on the arrangements to ensure proper delivery of duties.

A marked feature of this year’s Mela was the improvisation of the lighting system and increase in number of toilets for the public. The disaster magement team was also in place to tackle any untoward incidents.

Dustbins were installed by DUDA in multiple places to facilitate proper disposal of garbage.

Numbers of stalls were found selling religious knick kcks increasing the charm of the place. The pilgrims were also fed free of cost in Langars and mess put up by philanthropists.

The DC further directed the assembled police & paramilitary forces personnel, medical team, volunteers and other govt functiories to perform their duties properly.

Around 25,000 people visited the Kund on the first day.

The Mela will continue till the last week of January.
