SILCHAR, Sept 2: Often reports about the operation by police and security forces on being deliberately misled by vested interests are not uncommon. In the latest incident, three persons identified as Saifuddin Laskar (56), Abdul Rahman Laskar (23) and Khoya Ali Laskar (19) were arrested on the grounds that they were highway robbers and possessed arms and ammunitions. They were taken into custody by the police in the wee hours of Sunday and confined which was reported in the media.

In order to establish that the three persons arrested were not dacoits but victims of conspiracy of their neighbours of their tive village of yagram under Lakhipur police station, wife of Saifuddin Laskar, Angurjan Begum Laskar and their son Saidul Alam Laskar along with Maqbul Hussain Mazumdar, and others held a press-meet here last night and refuted all the allegations against them. Angurjan Begum claimed that police did not find any arms in their possession.

She stated while they were being taken by the police, Saifuddin Laskar’s two brothers Doula Raja Laskar and his son Bulbul Hussain as well as Rajib Hussain handed over the arms to police to implicate her husband and two others. She said in 2001, Saifuddin was shot in the leg by his two brothers and the husband of his daughter, Hira Mia Laskar, was done to death. A case in this regard is going on in the court.

Angurjan Begum presenting relevant documents and papers before the jourlists said four months ago Saifuddin Laskar was detained by police with gun. This case is also in the court. She also revealed that her son Abidur Rahman Laskar is serving in the Indian Army. Her family apprehended that as a retaliation to the cases filed in the court, they might be implicated in false and got up cases. And this is what happened, Angurjan Begum pointed out.

In this connection, Abidur Rahman apprehended false cases against them might be lodged with the police implicating them. It came out true. The copy of the letter on the issue was sent to the Superintendent of Police and the army. Accordingly, police investigated and submitted a report. It was also mentioned that dispute over land has been going on for a long time.

Angurjan said they find it very difficult to live in a decent and peaceful manner. By implicating them in false cases, the neighbours wanted to take revenge. In the meantime, Angurjan Begum Laskar and other family members met the DSP headquarters and urged upon him for proper investigation and provide them security as they feared harassment by their neighbours. Sitanshu Das, DSP, told over telephone to SDPO Lakhipur Anjan Pandit for initiating necessary action in this regard.
