Three car lifters arrested at Khatkhati

Bokajan, November 15: The Khatkhati Police checkpost in Assam-galand inter-State border in East Karbi Anglong is once again in the news with the recovery of a stolen Tata Zest car bearing a fake Harya registration number.

“The car was heading towards galand and on inspecting the documents, the registration number was found fake. Three persons - Rajendra Kumar, Sabon Ram and Niraj Yadav have been held in connection. Interestingly, Rajendra happens to be a dreaded car lifter and has been arrested many a times in the past. The trio has confessed to have lifted the car from Rajasthan. Early this month, a tipper truck which was reported stolen from Barniyat in Meghalaya was recovered from near the check post lying vacant. Each vehicle moving past the check post is thoroughly checked for documents and the lifters must have probably vacated the vehicle out of the fear of being caught,” said Dipak Bora, Officer in-charge of Khatkhati Police Station.

This check post on NH 39 incidentally happens to be the last police check into the State of galand. In addition, the check post has been keeping a tab on the movement of crimils and anti-social elements in and out of the State since long.
