Three cattle smugglers held, 425 cattle heads seized

GUWAHATI, Feb 17: Troops of Border Security Force, (BSF) Guwahati Frontier, on Tuesday apprehended three cattle smugglers along with 425 cattle heads from Kalaicharbari, Bhogdore and Barmanpara area in Dhubri district.

BSF official said acting on specific input of BSF Intelligence cell, regarding smuggling of cattle, a special operation party, led by Commandant 17 bn BSF along with officers and troops of the unit, initially apprehended one Indian tiol identified as Abdullah Mondal (47) of Bhogdore, in Dhubri district along with 387 cattle heads worth approximately Rs 30,82,500,  from the Kalaicharbari area of  Dhubri district. On the basis of his confession during prelimiry questioning two other smugglers were held. They have been identified as Bakul Barman (30) of Mepara village in South Dijpur district of West Bengal and Baharul Islam, (25) of Barmanpara village in Dhubri district.

They confessed that they are involved in trans-border crimes in the area. 425 cattle heads were seized last night, by BSF troops from Dhubri Sector alone, having an approximate value of Rs 34, 57,800. All apprehended persons and seized cattle heads have been handed over to concerned agency for further disposal, BDF official stated in a statement.

BSF has been seizing huge number of cattle heads in their efforts to prevent trans-border crimes.
