Three-day Independence Day celebration begins

Lakhimpur, Aug 13: Independence Day is being celebrated in North Lakhimpur for three days.  The 70th Independence Day celebration began in the district from Saturday.

The I-Day celebration programme has been conducted in North Lakhimpur Higher Secondary School playground. A rally was also brought out by the students in the district. “Independence Day is being celebrated for three days for the very first time in our district. It is a very special occasion for all Indians. We are very grateful that the district administration has taken such initiatives for celebrating the 70th Independence Day for three days. We have been waiting for these three days since long as we have been practicing and preparing various patriotic songs, dance and other cultural programme to perform during the I-Day programme,” said Papori Saikia,  a Class X student.

A race will also be organized on Sunday by the North Lakhimpur District Sports Department in the North Lakhimpur Stadium. On the main day in the presence of the public, government and non-government organizations, the tiol flag will be hoisted. Later, Directorate of Public Relation Department will perform some patriotic songs and other cultural programmes on the occasion. Petals of flowers will be showered on the statue of Mahatma Gandhi as tribute.


Fruits will be distributed among the prisoners of the North Lakhimpur Jail and patients in the Chaboti Civil Hospital. Later, a film on patriotism will be shown to the prisoners in the North Lakhimpur Jail.
