Three-day lok sangeet mela from January 9

Silchar, Dec 10: Barak Upatyaka Lok Mancha, a cultural organization, is all set to organize a 3 day Lok Sangeet gala event, ‘Lok Mela’, from January 9, 2018 at District Library auditorium, Silchar. Renowned Lok Sangeet artistes from Bangladesh, Rathindrath Roy, Satabdi Roy, daughter of legendary Lok Sangeet artiste Kiran Chandra Roy, Noor Jahaan Alim, daughter of another legendary Lok Sangeet artiste Abdul Alim and Baul singer Arif Deewan will be present. The musical night has been dedicated to the fond and loving memory of late Kalika Prasad Bhattacharjee and Dr Kalam Uddin Ahmed. It is pertinent to mention here that it was Dr Kalam Uddin Ahmed who suggested the me of the organization as Barak Upatyaka Lok Mancha.

 This information was shared at a press-meet held at the newly constructed office of the organization at Hailakandi road, Silchar on Saturday. Addressing the media-persons, Sariff Uz Zaman Laskar of Barak Upatyaka Lok Mancha said, “As usual, we are excited and are expecting it to be a successful one. A competition, titled ‘Barak Shera Lokokontho’, will be also conducted for which auditions have been planned for.  Auditions in Cachar will be held on December 28 at Madhyoshohor Sanskriti Samiti followed by at Karimganj and Hailakandi on December 29. Expert artistes especially from amongst the teachers of the Department of Performing Arts, Assam University, in the field will act as the judges for the auditions. Forms can be collected from this office on and from December 15. We will also felicitate farmers who have work hard and did exceptiolly well in the area of cultivation and related activities.” Among others present at the press-meet included Dr Rajat Sharmacharjee, cultural coorditor, Dr Barunjyoti Choudhury, general secretary, Rahul Dasgupta, secretary, and Partha Sarathi Chakraborty, member, of Barak Upatyaka Lok Mancha.
