JORHAT, September 15: In three different incidents of crime reported in Jorhat in the last 48 hours, Police on Monday arrested two persons identified as Sankar Das, a grocer by profession, and Asmat Ali, a vegetable wholesale seller, on dual charges of kidpping and extortion committed on Munu Das, a resident of Azapara of Tezpur, who was missing since September 10 on his arrival in Jorhat.

Police sources said that both Sankar and Asmat, after confining Munu Das in an isolated place, called Munu’s son and demanded Rs 2.60 lakh as ransom. Incidentally, the duo called from the mobile phone of Munu Das. Accordingly, the police laid a trap and arrested both the persons from the Nirmal Cycle Mart point of Jorhat and based on their confession, rescued Munu Das from Mariani. A Jorhat PS Case No 2009/15 was registered U/S 342, 384 and 506 IPC and interrogation is on to find out more details.

In another incident, a couple of the Danish gar area under Lichubari Outpost was drugged by their maid who later decamped with cash and jewellery worth Rs 50,000. The couple who took their meal served by the maid on the night of September 13 at around 11 pm woke up only at 5:30 pm evening the next day and found themselves looted of minimum cash and other valuables. The couple who was still under the spell of dizziness, somehow maged to call the police who immediately got them admitted to the Mission Hospital.  Doctors in Mission Hospital later cited heavy dose of sleeping drugs that made the couple sleep for almost 20 hours. Their condition was critical but gradually returned back to normalcy after washing of the stomach and proper administering of medicines. The police, however, acted swiftly and picked up a woman handler from Zuria in gaon for interrogation and it has been learnt that the maid was supplied by this handler just a month back. Police investigation is on.

In another incident, a Principal of a local school, Rajib Singh was arrested by police after an FIR was filed by a complaint (me withheld) against the Principal holding him responsible for indulging in an act of repeated molestation one after the other upon students of primary sections in the pretext of providing tuition and extra classes at home. The disclosure came after one such student who was allegedly subjected to innumerous acts of molestation, broke down and became afraid of going to school. On repeated persuasion the immoral act by the Principal and his crimil ture came to the fore and accordingly based upon a Jorhat PS case no 2020/15 U/S 77 IPC (R/W) 3/4 of Prevention of Children from Sexual Offence Act 2012, police arrested Rajib Singh and forwarded the accused to judicial custody.
