Three eateries asked to keep shutters down

GUWAHATI, July 9: Enforcement officials of the Commissionerate of Food Safety have ordered three hotels and restaurants of Guwahati to keep their shutters down for three consecutive days.

The officials conducted a drive against unsafe food in the Paltan Bazar area in the city on Monday and issued such an order. The team found the three hotels and restaurants not adhering to hygienic norms which they are supposed to follow. The three hotels and restaurants are – Raja Hotel and Restaurants, Kamakhya Hotel and Green View Hotel. They have been asked to keep their kitchens clean.

Meanwhile, in a similar incident at Kareem’s Restaurant, a luxurious eatery located on RG Baruah Road in the city, a family from the Panjabari area lodged an FIR at Dispur Police Station. In her FIR, a person named Kankana Medhi alleged that the restaurant had served rotten chicken to her family on Sunday night. After further inquiry, Medhi came to know that the restaurant has not been registered under the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India. Medhi alleged that she was provided with a cash memo without bearing any GST number by the restaurant.
