Three get life imprisonment for murder

TEZPUR, Feb 22: The court of Sonitpur additiol sessions Judge Darak Ullah here has sentenced two persons to life imprisonment here recently. Mamuda Begum and Abdul Ali of Medhi Chuburi under Dhekiajuli police station in Sonitpur district were convicted in a murder case.

Public prosecutor Anuj Baruah, who argued the case along with senior advocates of Tezpur court, Eske Alam and Imtiaj Ansari, said Begum and Ali were sentenced to life and fined Rs 20,000 each under Section 302 IPC and a simple imprisonment of one month each under Section 201 IPC in a case registered with Dhekiajuli police station.

The couple has been convicted of murdering their relative, Haidar Ali, and burying the body in their kitchen following an altercation a few days before Haidar went missing.

The case came to light on October 6, 2009, when bi Hussain, an acquaintance of Haidar, and some villagers went to the house of the accused looking for Haidar. Pressed for Haidar’s whereabouts, Begum confessed that she along with Ali had killed Haidar and buried the body in their kitchen.

The same court of additiol session Judge Darak Ullah earlier had convicted another accused Chullay Kullu alias Rabi and sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for life and fined Rs 5,000 for the rape and murder of a seven-year-old girl, Baruah said.

The court observed in the judgments that prosecution (for the state) has been able to prove the offence under section 376/302 of the IPC against accused Chullay Kullu beyond all reasoble doubt, Baruah   added.  

The body of the girl was recovered from the Dibru Darrang tea estate under Dhekiajuli police station following which the girl’s family lodged a complaint against the convict.
