Three hardcore poachers nabbed by a joint team of Darrang Police and staff of Orang National Park

MANGALDAI: A joint team of Darrang Police and staff of Orang National Park (ONP), acting on a tip-off on Wednesday, arrested three members of the organized armed gang of poachers before they could enter the park through Silbori area with the evil intention of poaching. The team recovered a .303 rifle, a silencer, a huge khukri and eleven rounds of ammunition from their possession.

A deserter of 12 Assam Rifles has also been arrested. The arrested poachers are Sagar Singha, son of Hari Mohan Singha of village Paloichura Part I under Katlichora Police Station in Hailakandi district (currently staying at village Kamlang Nagar, near Forest Reserve under Wakro Police Station in Lohit district of Arunachal Pradesh), Samser Ali (22), son of Johor Ali of village Balijan Pathar, and Moruj Ali, (28) son of Asaruddin Ali of village Singimari, both under Dhekiajuli Police Station in Sonitpur district.

The operation was carried out as per the direction of the Superintendent of Police, Amrit Bhuyan with active cooperation of the staff of the Park. During interrogation they confessed that deserter of 12 Assam Rifles, Sagar Singha was hired all the way from Arunachal Pradesh as shooter to kill rhino at the national reserve and the other two arrested poachers, namely Samser Ali and Moruj Ali, provided him the recovered rifle and ammunition and accompanied him as local guide and helper. They were carrying food and ration along with them for around 3-4 days.
