Three held with beef meat in Jorhat

JORHAT, APRIL 6: Three persons were arrested and sent to Jorhat Central Jail on Wednesday night by Jorhat Police under Bhogdoi Outpost, said police sources.

They are two persons and one juvenile - Abdul Rahman (42) who hails from Dhubri and Shah Zamal Haque who hails from Kokorajhar (40) while the juvenile is Abdul Rafiq (16) (not real me). Both the elders were booked under section 295K Assam Cow Protection Act (1950)-R 56&8 with case no.709/17.

According to police sources, all three were working as masons at the construction site near Kenduguri, two km from the heart of the city. The incident came to light when the three after shopping from somewhere within the city of Jorhat, purchased beef meat and showed the packet to a shopkeeper and bystanders  near  Kenduguri and shouting loudly that they would have beef, following which the shopkeeper and bystanders informed their friend and neighbours and the news spread like wildfire.

Though the situation was getting worse, quick interference and arrival of police stopped any untoward incident as police maged to b the all three along with the beef meat. The two persons were produced at Jorhat court while the juvenile was produced at the Lichubari Observation Home.

Both the persons were sent to Jorhat Central Jail while the juvenile was sent to the Observation Home, Jorhat which is run by the Department of Social Welfare, Government of Assam.
