Three held with fake currency notes

SHILLONG, July1: Meghalaya police on Friday afternoon apprehended three persons with fake Indian currency notes (FICN). According to police, the persons including two women were arrested from Lad Smit on the outskirts of the city with Rs 1.43 lakh of fake Indian currency.

East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police (SP) Mariahom Kharkrang said that acting on special inputs about FICN being circulated in Shillong, the Special Cell of East Khasi Hills police was activated and surveillance mounted on some suspicious vehicles.

“One of the suspicious vehicles was intercepted at Lad Smit today at around 12 noon and Fake Indian Currency Notes amounting to Rs 1, 43,500 was found on him,” Kharkrang said.

The arrested persons were identified as Teimon Chyrmang (40) of Jalaphet village in East Jaintia Hills district, Lorisloma Siangshai (37) of Wapungskur village of  East Jaintia Hills district and Chemi Phawa (26) of Myntdu village in West Jaintia Hills district. A white Celerio bearing registration number ML 05 M 3976 used for transportation of the FICN has been seized.
