Three-member Central team to assess flood damage in Hailakandi district

Hailakandi: A three-member Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) headed by Joint Secretary (DM), MHA, Sanjeev Kumar Jindal will undertake an assessment of the extent of damage caused by floods in Hailakandi district on Friday. The Central team is on a three-day visit to Barak Valley from February 21 to 23. Besides Jindal, the other members of the team consist of Joint Director, Ministry of Finance (DoE), SC Meena and Assistant Executive Engineer, MoRTH, Sachin Kumar Gautam.

The Central team will hold discussion with the officials of the district administration and heads of line departments at Deputy Commissioner’s conference hall. Deputy Commissioner, Keerthi Jalli will apprise the Central team of the extent of flood damage with power point presentation.

The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) and officials from all the line departments will accompany the team to the worst affected areas like Gaglacherra Road via Kunkunbasti, Matijuri, Habirtinukha, Purbo Sonapur and Jaleswar Hatia to take stock of the damage. The team will leave for Silchar in the evening.

It may be mentioned that the Hailakandi district administration had already sent a detailed memorandum to the Government of Assam seeking compensation for the damage occurred due to rains and floods in 2018, considered to be worst in many decades. The memorandum comprised details about the loss of human life, properties, infrastructure and crops. Three persons died and over three lakh people affected in the district due to the deluge in June last year. In view of the visit of the Central team, a meeting was held by the DDMA with the district heads of all line departments. CEO, DDMA, EL Fairhiem directed all the district heads to submit flood damage report and to place SDRF proposals forthwith.
