Three more deaths due to drowning in Assam

PATHSALA, July 21:  Close on the heels of two boys drowning in Bajali subdivision under Patacharkuchi PS of Barpeta district on July 18, three more boys, one from Badankuchi and two from Maripur-Anandapur, met a watery grave on Friday. With this, the death toll due to drowning has risen to five within three days.
Bijit Kalita, a 5th semester degree student of Bajali College and son of a retired Army jawan and resident of Badankuchi, went to take a bath in a pond near his house. When his family members did not see him for a long time, they started searching for him.

“After noticing his footwear on the bank of the pond, a search was started immediately and his body was recovered from the deep water,” said sources.

On the other hand, 13-year-old Parash Nath, son of Naba Nath and Parul Nath of Maripur-Anandapur in Nityananda area, and 9-year-old Alakesh Nath, son of Bhabesh Nath and Nirmali Nath of the same village, died after drowning while bathing in the River Kaldiya.
