Three NDFB-S rebels held in Baksa

TAMULPUR, Jan 17: Assam Police along with Army in a joint operation bbed three rebels of the anti-talks faction of tiol Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB), NDFB-Songbijit, in Baksa district, about 95 km from the city, on Saturday  night. A huge cache of arms was also seized from the detained militants.

Acting on a tip off, police on Saturday night launched operation at Dolabari area under Barama police station in Baksa district and bbed a cadre of the outfit. Based on the confession of the detained militant, who was identified as Ranjit Muchahary, a joint police and Army team bbed NDFB (S) rebels Jimi Boro alias Dharmendra Boro from Panbari in Kumarikata and Sansuma Boro from Bagajuli area of the district.

“A 7.65 pistol, one magazine, two live ammunition of 7.65 pistol, ten bullets of 9mm pistol, three live gredes, a handmade gun and ten extortion notes were found on them, “ said Asif Ahmed, SDPO, Tamulpur.

Police have registered a case against then under various section of the IPC.  

Police sources said the detained rebels were involved in various subversive activities in BTAD.

The police said the arrest of the three rebels is a jolt to the strength of the militant outfit.

A top police official said with 30 to 35 cadres, the NDFB (S) is still strong and active in lower Assam.

He said apart from the NDFB (S), various outfits like the Kamtapur Liberation Organisation, Rabha Viper Army, tiol Santhal Liberation Army and the Muslim Protection Tiger Force of Assam are trying to gain a foothold and strengthen their base in the area.

He said security forces are continuing counter operations against the groups.
