Three poachers, including forest guard, apprehended

GAON (HAIBORGAON), May 4: gaon Jakhalabandha police on Tuesday night bbed two hardcore poachers at Harmoti of Lakhimpur district along with arms and ammunition and on Wednesday, a forest guard who was allegedly involved in a rhino poaching case last November was also apprehended.

 According to sources, Jakhalabandha police on the basis of intelligence input, launched a search operation in Harmoti and were able to b two hardcore poachers while they were taking shelter in a house with the intention of rhino poaching in the area. The sources added that the poachers have been identified as Nur Islam of Harmoti and Astha Basumotary of Karbi Anglong district.

The police also seized one 3.3 rifle and five rounds of live bullets from their custody. On the other hand, Jakhalabandha police on Wednesday morning apprehended another forest guard who was allegedly involved in a rhino poaching case in November last year and was hiding for the last three days. He has been identified as Hara Mohan Baishya. The sources added that in the last three days the Jakhalabandha Police have been able to apprehend a total of 11 rhino poachers out of which five were forest department personnel.
