Three 'workers' held

ITAGAR, Jan 27: Security Forces in Aruchal Pradesh apprehended three overground workers of the United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) on Friday evening at Jagun in the Assam-Aruchal Pradesh inter-state border. The workers have been arrested from Kakorani area in Jagun during a joint operation by the Jairampur Battalion of Assam Rifles and Assam Police, Defence Spokesman Col Chiranjeet Konwer informed today.
Based on inputs from Assam Police about the presence of ULFA cadre in Kakorani, the battaliony launched an operation in the area and apprehended the over ground workers who were identified as Ranjit Chutia, Bongday Sabuk Dora and Debemshor Gogoi.
The police confirmed that the individuals have been acting as over ground workers of the banned outfit and were allegedly linked to recent activities of the group in the area.
“The operation was a follow up to two low intensity blast witnessed during the day. The blast was an act of desperation by the organisation to gain publicity and maintain its relevance,” the spokesman said.
Security forces have been carrying out aggressive operations along the Assam- Aruchal border and the apprehension has struck a blow to the extortion activities being carried out by the cadres and further destroyed the administrative support in the area.
