Thunderstorm accompanied by Gusty winds & lighting likely to occur in several parts of NE region: IMD

Guwahati: Guwahati city and various South Assam districts along with some isolated places of Northeast (NE) may witness a spell of thunderstorm accompanied by gusty winds & lightning from Tuesday onwards.

As per a weather forecast by the Regional Meteorological Centre in Guwahati on Tuesday had predicted that fairly widespread rain/thundershowers are very likely to occur over northeast India with isolated thunder squalls and lightning over Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh on March 26 and 27.

Media reports also claim that most of the scientists now believe that with the increase in global temperature, the intensity of thunderstorms and lightning will increase more in the near future.

The thundercloud formation because of excess heat over Bangladesh is resulting in thunderbolts and lightning, particularly in the regions where water bodies are high, such as Haor areas.

The wind convergence results in active convection which is the upward movement of warm and moist air. The subsequent instability results in widespread precipitation with chances of thunderstorms.

Furthermore, in Guwahati, Traffic slowed down today across the city and visibility was low due to the dark clouds.
