Thunderstorm lashes Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR, May 16: Thunderstorm destroyed school building and uprooted trees at Haloadol village in Kokrajhar district on Friday. The strong wind accompanied by heavy shower blew away the roof and tin sheets of Haloadol ME School to about half-a-kilometer, damaging the midday meal food store room in the school and study materials for the students. Some of the houses in the village were also reportedly damaged in the storm.

Prabat Chandra th, Headmaster of the school said that the heavy storm blew away the roof along with tin sheets of the office room of the school. He said that books, store room of midday meal and school materials were damaged by the storm. Property worth more than Rs 1 lakh of the school was damaged in the storm. th also said that he had informed to the District Elementary Education Officer (DEEO) about the damage.

The school magement committee had declared holiday on that day for the damage. Mathuram Kanta Basumatary, SMC president said that the storm could have injured the students if it had come during the school hours.
