Timber-laden truck seized in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR, August 18: A full timber-loaded truck was seized from Bishmuri area of Kokrajhar on Thursday morning by a team of police personnel. The truck was loaded with 25 pieces of timbers, mostly sal. Sources said that the truck with full loaded timber bearing No. As-01BC/4698 got stuck in Bishmuri area due to breakdown of engine. Later, getting the information, the police team from Karigaon went to the spot and seized the truck. However, no one was found as the smugglers, including the driver of the truck had escaped. The value of the timber could have been over Rs. 3 lakh. Meanwhile, the deputy chief of BTC, Kampa Borgoyary, who is also the in-charge of Forest, said altogether three trucks with loaded timber were seized on Thursday in different places, one each at Kachugaon, Bishmuri and in Chirang. He said the department of BTC would find out who were involved in the smuggling of timber. He added that smugglers also used trucks having registration plate of Bhutan.
