Timber logs seized, seven arrested

KOKRAJHAR, Dec 4: The 16th Bn. SSB stationed at Ranighuli in Kokrajhar seized huge number of logs with tractor from Balajar area under Runikhata police station in Chirang district recently and arrested seven timber smugglers.            

Sources said a team of the SSB jawans stationed at Sashipur along Indo-Bhutan border seized a tractor and 69 pieces of gambari wood worth Rs. 7, 50,000.

The arrested smugglers have been identified as Munoowar Hussain (22) of ngal Bhanga, Mamnel Mak (23) of ngal Bhanga, Abdul Barik Ali of Amguri, Md. Absuddin (25) of Jaypur, Lalson Ali (30) of ngal Bhanga, Abdul Aziz (37) of ngal Bhaga and tractor owner Niren Basumatary (38) of Muktapur.

The arrested persons and seized items were handed over to the DFO office at Kajalgaon in Chirang district.

In a separate incident,   one saw mill was busted in a joint operation and four persons were apprehended from Radhipur area under Runikhata police station in Chirang district. The team seized 30 pieces of takthi, 50 pieces of chaukhat, three pieces of logs, four pieces of big logs and one saw machine.
