Timber logs worth Rs. 64 lakh seized

KOKRAJHAR, February 17: A special operation team headed by AKC Singh, Commandant of the 16th Bn, SSB, Ranighuli conducted a joint operation at Sulekhaguri and its adjoining areas under Kokrajhar police station in Kokrajhar district on Monday and seized huge quantity of timber logs from smugglers. This was informed by the Assistant Publicity Officer, Sector Head Quarter of the SSB, Kokrajhar, V. Chinmuanthang.

The team bbed 47 timber smugglers who are from Chirang district and seized 12 tractors, 11 trolleys loaded with 31 valuable timber logs, one motorcycle and 30 mobile handsets. The seized items were worth around Rs. 64,00,000.

The smuggling of valuable timber is still continuing in the reserve forests of BTC but the forest department is appearing rather helpless in dealing with the smugglers who reportedly have links with militant organizations.
