Timber seized in Margherita

MARGHERITA, November 18: Digboi Forest Division staff and Margherita Forest Range staff jointly seized 90 CFT of Chapa species wood worth around Rs 80,000 from Ramakanta Boro’s house at Bhitor Powai, Margherita under Digboi Forest Division on Wednesday.

Podum Borpatragohain, Margherita East Range Forest Officer said that for many days they were on the lookout for Ramakanta Boro who is a notorious timber smuggler of Margherita.  “Today we seized 90 CFT of Chapa species wood from his house. He is now absconding,” he added.

Meanwhile, acting on a tip-off Digboi Forest Division officials arrested four notorious timber smugglers along with valuable wood from Bhitor Powai, Margherita on Tuesday. They are Krish Boro, Khageswar Basumatary and Bogai Karmakar from Merapani in Golaghat district and Jeetandra Kalita from Borhat, Sivasagar district. All four were produced before the Margherita Sub Divisiol Magistrate Court and sent to judicial custody, said Krish Gogoi, staff of Digboi Division Forest.
