Timber smugglers arrested, sal timber-laden pick-up van seized

KOKRAJHAR, June 13: A Bolero pick-up van bearing registration no AS-01/GC-6939, laden with smuggled sal timber, was seized by the Assam Police at Karigaon on NH 31(C) on Monday morning in Kokrajhar. Three persons were arrested.

ray Boro, IC of Karigaon Police out post, said that the van with the valuable sal timber worth over Rs 2 lakh, was seized during daily routine checking. He said three persons were picked up who brought the timber from Patgaon through the tiol highway towards Howly, Barpeta. He also said they received specific information of a sal timber -laden pick-up van moving towards Howly from a source and thus they checked the vehicles and were able for arrest the timber smugglers.

The arrested timber smugglers have been identified as Saidul Islam (19), zrul Islam (23) and Babul Ali (20), all from Howly in Barpeta district.
