Timber smugglers bbed in West Karbi Anglong

KHERONI, August 20: A team of forest officials of Kheroni Southern forest range launched an operation against the ubated timber smuggling going on at Amreng forest reserve on Wednesday night. During this operation, three timber smugglers were bbed with five buffaloes at Killing Ghat of Kapili River at Arm Teplong village at around 10 pm under Kheroni southern forest Range in west Kabi Anglong. These smugglers were carrying timber from Amreng forest reserve of Karbi Anglong to Dima Hasao by crossing the Kapili River with the help of these buffaloes.

The timber smugglers have been identified as Subit Langthasa (21), Ringjen Phonglo (19) from Diyungbra of Dima Hasao district and Md. Abdul Rajek Ali (40) from Udali of gaon district. They were involved in the illegal felling of trees and sectioning, and dragging the logs to Kapili river bank.

Timber smugglers have been holding sway in Kheroni Reserve Forest of west Karbi Anglong. Illegal trade in timber has been going ubated in Kheroni of Karbi Anglong district. Valuable timber is smuggled from Karbi Anglong to neighbouring districts and Meghalaya.
