From a Correspondent

Boko, February 10: Smugglers, who have cut down 3,000-4,000 valuable mature trees at Rani Village near Lampi, 30 km from Boko, have allegedly destroyed a wooden bridge which forest officials used to reach the area.

Through DFO Bhabesh Das had stated that they did not have sufficient men, arms or vehicles to launch an operation against timber smugglers in the border areas,  Pranjal Kataki, Ranger, Boko Forest Range under DFO had launched a major operation and seized a large quantity of logs. A part of the logs had been transferred to the Boko forest range depot on Tuesday.

But when they went again to bring the remaining logs from the area, they found that smugglers had allegedly destroyed the wooden bridge in the area so that forest officials could not reach the area and in the meanwhile the smugglers could carry the logs to Meghalaya safely.

On Wednesday Ranger Kataki launched another massive operation in the area and said that till the last piece of log is shifted to the Boko range depot, this operation would continue in the area.
