Timber worth 5 lakh seized in Dhubri

DHUBRI, June 14: The Dhubri forest division today seized a truck loaded with Sengun timber worth Rs 5 lakh from Sagalia  in Dhubri district, where ‘illegal’ timber operation is prevalent. Acting on a tip-off, the officers and staff of Dhubri  forest division, led by Forest Officer Raghabendra Barman along with sleuths of Forest Protection Force , stopped the timber-laden truck during routine patrolling conducted today  near Sagalia along NH-31, sources said.

However, the driver and handyman of the vehicle maged to escape and ownership of the vehicle is yet to be known. The seized truck (No-UP 37,T-2076) seized is now under custody of Dhubri Beat Office . Investigation is on and such ‘illegal’ operations will be dealt with the strongest terms, said the sources.
