'Time has come to change attitude towards women'

Dibrugarh, Dec 1: A legal awareness meeting for women was organized by Assam Women Commission in association with Dibrugarh district administration on Thursday. Addressing the gathering, chairperson of the Assam Women Commission, Chikimiki Talukdar, said that although there were many laws ected to safeguard the interests of women, but due to lack of awareness about these, a large number of women of the interior areas were deprived of the legal help. She added that even many educated women were not familiar with such laws, as a result of which they faced various problems in the society as well as their family.

“The time has come to change the attitude towards women,” Talukdar asserted. She urged all to keep themselves informed about their legal rights. District Development Commissioner Jadav Saikia also spoke at the event and emphasized the growing need for women to be aware of their legal rights.

Secretary of the Dibrugarh District Legal Aid Cell, yan Sankar Baruah and advocate as well as member of District Women Cell, zra Ahmed, graced as the occasion as resource persons. The awareness meet was also attended by the vice-chairperson of the Assam Women Commission, Dr. Hemprabha Borthakur.
