MANGALDAI: “Of late, the Congress has been claiming that former APCC president Bhubaneswar Kalita, the Congress candidate for No. 8 Mangaldai HPC, is the only suitable candidate to be elected as the Member of the Parliament (Lok Sabha) in the ensuing general election. If he is the only suitable candidate then he should make it clear before the people of the State and particularly the electorates of Mangaldai HPC about his achievements during his tenure as the three-time serving Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha). The electorates of Mangaldai HPC have the every right to know the amount he spent from his MP Local Area Development fund for the development of the areas under the constituency,” said Executive Member of BTC, Jagadish Sarkar while addressing the first election rally at Kalaigaon organized by the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) on Wednesday.

In the rally attended by a large number of supporters, Jagadish Sarkar also remarked that though Bhubaneswar Kalita was originally a resident of the parliamentary constituency and was a legislator from Rangiya LAC, he never bothered for the development of the areas under Mangaldai HPC.

“He has been visiting the areas of the constituency only because of his candidature,” added Sarkar. He also said that the Congress was solely responsible for not undertaking any development activities in the State, particularly of the BTC areas and appealed to all sections of the electorates to bid adieu to the Congress this time in the greater interest of the people of the State and the country. He also made it clear that at least 70,000 electorates of 65 Kalaigaon LAC would surely exercise their constitutional right favouring the BJP only to join the march for development and peace.

A galaxy of BPF leaders, including ministers, legislators, Executive Members and MCLAs, besides party workers took part in the rally. Minister Rihon Daimary, Speaker of BTC Assembly Tridip Daimary, legislators Maheswar Boro of Kalaigaon, Kamali Basumatary of Paneri and Charan Boro of Mazbat, all the five Executive Members of BTC from Udalguri district, MCLA Suresh Tanti also attended the rally.

With a view to initiate the poll campaign smoothly, an election committee for Kalaigaon LAC has been formed with legislator Maheswar Boro as the chairman and Binoy Kumar Nath as the convener. On the same afternoon, the BPF also organized a massive rally at Dimakuchi in Paneri LAC.
