Tinsukia by-pass to be opened soon, assures Tinsukia DC

TINSUKIA, October 27: After much dilly-dallying and administrative hiccups, the much-awaited Tinsukia by-pass will be opened for the public soon, informed Ranjan Kr Chakraborty,  Deputy Commissioner of Tinsukia, though connecting link between Digboi-Doomdooma via Makum would take some more time to complete, he said at a press meet held on Thursday. Out of 20 km-long Tinsukia segment of by-pass, while 18.8 km has been completed, settlement is on over 1.1 km over payment of surface compensation to four dwelling houses. The main contention was 230 metres of land that belonged to Army. The Army after persuasion agreed for an exchange. The district administration is expecting to get fil nod soon for land transfer from Jorhat-based Defense Estate Officer following a cabinet approval of Defense Headquarters, said the DC.
