Tinsukia DC chalks out flood preparedness plan

TINSUKIA, July 16: Though Tinsukia district is yet to be affected by current wave of flood, Tinsukia district administration is well prepared to combat future flood situation in the district and has initiated adequate preparedness to deal with any eventuality, stated Oim Saran Kumar Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Tinsukia at a press meet on Saturday.

Singh stated that a number of flood-prone villages had been identified and total capacity of inmates had been worked out while the responsibility of magement of relief and rescue operation in each zone (19 numbers of zones with 35 sectors in four revenue circles- Tinsukia, Doomdooma, Sadiya and Margherita) has been entrusted to a team of responsible officers drawn from various line departments. He added further that sufficient food stock was available in Tinsukia district and instruction had been issued to the department concerned to maintain a buffer stock for entire flood season in Tinsukia district.

Giving details of the rescue preparedness, the DC said one team of NDRF with 39 personnel and 10 personnel of SDRF have been kept ready in the event of any emergency. Besides, five inflated rubber boats with SDRF, two motor rescue boats with NDRF and 91 country boats were available in the district. With no dearth of funds, Singh assured that quality food stuff and relief materials would be provided to the flood victims. Though flood water was receding in other parts of Assam, it was too early to predict in Tinsukia district as flash flood in catchment areas of Aruchal Pradesh could take place any time even after the monsoon season, the DC stated.
