Tinsukia Municipal Board draws flak for 'failing' to address civic woes

From our Correspondent
TINSUKIA, March 6: Tinsukia is fast turning into a garbage town. The Tinsukia Municipal Board (TMB) has miserably failed to handle the basic civic problems of the town. While infighting and interl rift among the ward members have cost the town dwellers to a certain extent as top brass of ward members are all defectors shifting allegiance from one political party to another party, unscientific construction of roads and drains have brought more misery and inconvenience to the public. During preparation of various schemes, no planned survey and mapping was done, particularly in respect of major drains leading to water logging. Usually cleaning of garbage is undertaken during wee hours of the morning before the onset of busy hours, but ironically in this town, the TMB, with its huge fleet of dredgers, lands on several roads and lanes at around 7.30 am to 9 am blocking the traffic which causesĀ  inconvenience to people, school and college goers. The authorities of several educatiol institutions have objected to such type of cleanliness during morning hours. Construction of most of the roads and drains is incomplete, the filth dredged out from the drain remains on the roadside for days together till it is dried or washed back to the drain again. Most of the contractors, sources said, are not technically sound, supervision by the officials of TMB too is allegedly superficial, thus durability of work at the expense of tax-payers money is always questioned. With the fincial year coming to an end, utilization of funds is perhaps being prioritized rather than quality of work.
