Tinsukia Municipal Board 'fails' to provide basic services

From our Correspondent

TINSUKIA, April 18: Tinsukia Municipal Board (TMB) is in shambles with an ‘incompetent’ chairperson having been cornered by safai workers who had taken Tinsukia town for a ride. It is almost a fortnight now since the safai workers have abstained from their routine cleaning jobs leading to excessive accumulation of garbage in entire town. Even the Deputy Commissioner’s intervention did not yield any fruitful solution even as Bihu celebration passed off amidst filth and stench spread over the main road in Tinsukia town.

With arrogant safai workers along with their leaders demanding revision of wages, which according to a source, is unreasoble unless implemented State-wide, some leaders at the behest of few unscrupulous so-called unionists made the situation worse. While most of the ward commissioners have no role to play other than gossiping in the premises of the municipal office, the role of local MLA Sanjay Kishan in tackling municipal issues has been questioned. A host of responsible citizens of the town desire that the Tinsukia Municipal Board should be dissolved.

TMB has failed to provide minimum basic public utility services. Though more than a crore has been left outstanding as taxes which TMB failed to realize from the public, the revenue generated from tax collection has allegedly not been accounted in a proper manner leading to an artificial fund crisis.
