Tinsukia railway division focuses on comfort and safety of passengers

TINSUKIA, June 2: Along with rest of the country, the Tinsukia railway division of NF Railway observed week-long Rail Hum Safar Saptaah from May 26 with specific activities on each day marked by Swachchta, Satkar, Sewa, Satarkata, Saamanjasya, Sanyojan and culmited on June 1 as Sanchar Diwas.

At a press meet held on Wednesday, the newly-appointed Divisiol Railway Mager (DRM), Prashant Mishra flanked by senior officers of the division, while apprising about the activities undertaken during the week-long programme, laid top priority on comfort and safety of the railway passengers and general public.

Mishra said that the division had saved Rs 12.3 crore from interl checks in 2015-16 with Rs 3.67 crore was saved by planned shutdown of locomotives. In addition, 10 permanent speed restrictions were removed which facilitated enhancement of the speed in Simulguri-New Tinsukia section from 75 to 100 kmph, besides keeping in view the safety of train operations,17 unmanned level crossing gates were manned during 2014-16 while two unmanned level crossings were closed. He further informed that the division created simultaneous reception facilities in 11 stations from Duliajan to Titabor while 22.5 km long road separator in Dibrugarh-Makum section was installed to prevent tract mounting and infringement by vehicular traffic.

About future initiatives in the division, Mishra outlined few key areas like an EMD loco at Mariani, mechanzation of laundry facilities at Dibrugarh, periodical overhauling of LHG coaches at Dibrugarh, DEMURS in Tinsukia, besides augmentation of sick line capacity of Dibrugarh coaching depot.

Media persons during interaction suggested that the general tickets should be printed in Assamese in addition to Hindi/English and illegal truck parking on Hijiguri over bridge should be stopped, besides eviction of crimil dens from below the over bridge.
